Where it came from
Kai, cataloged as part of set 891729-1, was released as a promotional minifigure associated with the Lego Ninjago theme. These promotional items were frequently distributed through licensed magazines or specific retail events to maintain engagement with the long-running Ninjago narrative, which centers on a group of elemental masters trained in the fictional martial art of Spinjitzu.
The character design for Kai draws heavily from the aesthetic established in the 2011 series launch, featuring his iconic red color scheme and signature dragon-themed motifs. As the elemental master of fire, Kai was designed to reflect an impulsive and determined personality, with the minifigure's printing intended to capture the look of his traditional ninja gi. Upon release, these promotional figures were well-received by collectors for their accessibility and consistent adherence to the established visual style of the Ninjago universe.
