Where it came from
The LEGO Brand Retail Store, released under set number 40528-1, was introduced as a promotional gift-with-purchase in 2022 to commemorate the grand opening of new LEGO retail locations. It captures the modern aesthetic of the company's modular storefronts, complete with the iconic yellow LEGO logo, translucent window displays, and the recognizable brick-built architecture that defines the shopping experience for fans worldwide.
Designed to be a compact, micro-scale representation of the full-size stores, the set serves as a nostalgic token for the brand's physical expansion. While the identity of the specific lead designer remains part of the company's internal creative process, the set follows a lineage of promotional architectural models aimed at capturing the corporate identity of LEGO's retail spaces. It was received by the collector community as a charming collectible that bridges the gap between consumer experience and the construction play that defines the product line.
