Where it came from
Released in 2019, the LEGO Disney Series 2 (71024) arrived as a follow-up to the successful 2016 inaugural Disney blind bag series. This collection was developed to celebrate a wider breadth of Disney and Pixar cinematic history, moving beyond the core Mickey Mouse and Friends lineup to include fan-favorite characters from films such as Aladdin, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Incredibles. The goal was to provide adult collectors and younger fans alike with high-quality, specialized minifigure representations of beloved characters that had not yet appeared in standard LEGO sets.
The design of these figures was handled by the LEGO Group's internal design team, focusing on intricate dual-molded pieces and detailed printing to capture the distinct silhouettes of iconic characters like Hercules, Frozone, and Scrooge McDuck. By employing the blind bag format, the series maintained an element of collectibility and mystery that was well-received by the community, though it often led to significant efforts by fans to identify specific figures through tactile 'feeling' techniques at retail locations.
