Where it came from
Released in 2012, Series 7 of the LEGO Minifigures line continued the company's successful strategy of blind-bagged, collectible character assortments. This specific sealed box, numbered 8831, was designed for retail distribution, containing a standardized assortment of 60 individual foil packs. The series was created to keep the LEGO brand relevant in the competitive pocket-money toy market by providing consumers with a low-cost entry point into the hobby while driving secondary market interest through the intentional scarcity of certain characters.
The character designs for Series 7 were developed by the LEGO design team to span a variety of historical and fantastical archetypes, including the Aztec Warrior, the Grandma, and the Galaxy Patrol. By iterating on themes that had proven successful in previous series, the designers aimed to broaden the appeal across different age demographics. Upon release, the series was well-received by the adult fan community for its intricate printing and unique accessories, which offered parts previously unavailable in standard system sets.
