Where it came from
The Lighthouse Rescue Centre (41380-1) was released by the LEGO Group in 2019 as part of the Friends theme. Set in the fictional Heartlake City, the product line was designed to emphasize cooperative play, environmental stewardship, and animal care, building on the theme's long-standing focus on social interaction and relatable scenarios. This specific set was developed to highlight aquatic rescue missions, featuring a multi-level lighthouse structure equipped with a laboratory, play area for sea lions, and various rescue-themed accessories.
The design of the set focuses on a bright, pastel aesthetic that serves as a hallmark of the Friends sub-brand, utilizing modular sections to allow for different configurations. It was received as a prominent addition to the 2019 wave, praised for its inclusion of specialized animal figures and functional play elements like the functioning light brick. By integrating narrative-driven building experiences, the design team aimed to encourage children to engage with themes of conservation while maintaining the stylized, approachable look that defines the Friends collection.
