Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Rescue Mission Boat, released in 2019 as part of the subtheme focusing on marine wildlife conservation, reflects the brand's shift toward socially conscious storytelling. Designed to mirror real-world research vessels, the set provides a detailed platform for play, featuring a removable deck, a rotating crane, and an integrated laboratory space. It was conceived to encourage imaginative roleplay centered around environmental stewardship and animal rescue, a narrative direction that resonated well with the theme's core demographic.
The design emphasizes accessibility and modularity, allowing builders to explore the interior of the boat while maintaining the structural integrity required for play. Illustrators and designers collaborated to include diverse accessories, such as a water scooter and a mini-submarine, to enhance the mission-based play experience. Upon its release, the set was praised for its balance of technical detail and thematic cohesion, solidifying its place as a standout entry in the Friends series for that year.
