Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Friends line, the Turtles Rescue Mission set was designed to introduce themes of environmental conservation and wildlife protection to younger builders. Set within the Heartlake City environment, the build features a coastal rescue base and an amphibious vehicle intended to save sea turtles from a small island, reflecting the broader initiative of the Friends theme to portray characters engaging in community service and animal care.
The set was conceived by the LEGO design team to provide a tactile narrative experience, balancing a standard building challenge with accessories like a surfboard, life jacket, and turtle eggs. It was received as a standard mid-range addition to the Friends ecosystem, praised for its focus on rescue-based play patterns and the inclusion of specific animal figures that expanded the thematic reach of the line beyond domestic settings.
