Where it came from
The LEGO Duplo Maxi Zoo, set number 2669-1, was released in the late 1990s as part of the brand's efforts to expand the toddler-focused Duplo line into more complex, narrative-driven play environments. Designed for children aged two to five, the set was conceived to introduce youngsters to animal identification and habitat exploration through chunky, easy-to-handle building elements that complemented the larger Duplo brick system.
The design emphasizes accessibility and durability, utilizing primary colors and rounded shapes characteristic of the Duplo aesthetic during that era. The set includes a variety of zoo-themed molded animals and minifigures, reflecting a design philosophy aimed at encouraging roleplay and motor skill development. Upon its release, it was well-received by parents and educators as a foundational playset that successfully bridged the gap between basic brick construction and creative pretend play.
