Where it came from
Released in 1978, the Racing Team set 2674-1 stands as a representative example of early LEGO Duplo vehicle design. During this period, the Duplo line was expanding rapidly to offer younger children larger, safer versions of standard building sets, focusing on tactile play and robust construction. The design philosophy prioritized simplified geometry and primary colors to assist in the development of fine motor skills while introducing the concept of interchangeable parts.
The set features a classic formula-style racer with a chunky, simplified aesthetic typical of late 1970s Duplo sets. It was developed to capitalize on the enduring popularity of racing motifs in toy culture, utilizing the characteristic large studs and rounded edges that define the Duplo brand. It remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of early childhood construction toys, reflecting a time when Duplo was transitioning from simple blocks into more thematic, play-oriented sets.
