Where it came from
Released in 2020 as part of the LEGO City Airport subtheme, this set represents a modern interpretation of commercial aviation within the LEGO world. It was designed to provide an expansive play experience, focusing on the scale and functionality of a large passenger aircraft, complete with an integrated terminal vehicle and ground support equipment. The set reflects a broader design evolution in the City theme, moving toward more complex, multi-part builds that integrate various roles like pilot, ground crew, and passengers.
The model was created by LEGO designers to capture the recognizable silhouette of a wide-body jet, featuring a removable roof to allow access to the interior cabin. It arrived during a period where LEGO emphasized modular play, ensuring that the airplane could interact seamlessly with other airport-related sets from the same series. Upon its release, it was well-received by builders and parents alike for its comprehensive approach to airport roleplay, successfully balancing structural durability with the aesthetic demands of a large-scale set.
