Where it came from
The LEGO Braille Bricks - German Alphabet (set 40722-1) was developed as part of a global initiative by the LEGO Foundation to promote inclusive learning. Released to support the development of tactile skills and literacy for children with visual impairments, the set translates the German braille alphabet into the tactile LEGO system, allowing educators and students to learn braille through play-based interaction.
The design of these bricks maintains the traditional LEGO dimensions, ensuring they are fully compatible with existing collections, but features studs specifically arranged to match the braille code characters. The project was conceived in collaboration with various organizations for the blind worldwide to ensure the pedagogical approach was authentic and effective, receiving broad acclaim from educational institutions and accessibility advocates for its bridge between mainstream toys and essential learning tools.
