Police Boat

The LEGO City Police Boat, set number 7899-1, was released in 2008 as part of the broader LEGO City Coast Guard subtheme. Designed to expand the playability of the City harbor environment, the set was conceived to provide a functional water-based vehicle capable of both patrolling and search-and-rescue operations. It reflects a design philosophy focused on durability and play-pattern integration, featuring a buoyant hull element that allowed the vessel to actually float in water, a common design goal for LEGO maritime sets of that era.

The set was illustrated and engineered to emphasize the high-speed pursuit aesthetic common to LEGO's police-themed lines. By combining traditional brick-building techniques with specialized molded hull pieces, the design team aimed to balance structural stability with a sleek, aerodynamic profile. Upon its release, it was well-received by the target audience for its inclusion of multiple minifigures and its genuine buoyancy, which bridged the gap between a displayable model and an active bath or pool toy.
