Where it came from
The Prison Island Starter Set (60127-1) was released in 2016 as part of the LEGO City 'Prison Island' sub-theme. Designed to offer an entry-level building experience, it provided a condensed snapshot of the larger, more complex police-themed sets that dominated the City line during that period. The set was intended to allow children to quickly populate their dioramas with essential character archetypes, focusing on the interplay between the law enforcement officers and the recurring motif of the jailbreak narrative.
The design of the set focuses on a small police buggy and a perimeter segment of the prison facility, emphasizing playability through a modular approach. It features a simplified guard station and a small section of fence, which served as a functional accompaniment to the larger 60130 Prison Island headquarters. The aesthetic aligns with the standard 2016 City design language, utilizing a crisp blue and white color scheme for the police equipment, which was well-received by fans for its consistent branding and utility in small-scale scene building.
