Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the LEGO City Police subtheme, Prison Island (60130-1) was designed to capture the classic play dynamic of a high-security penitentiary. This set serves as a cornerstone of the 2016 City wave, aiming to provide a comprehensive playset that includes a prison building, a helicopter, a police boat, and a police transport truck to facilitate elaborate escape-and-pursuit scenarios.
The design emphasizes modularity and playability, featuring functional elements like a retractable gate, a helipad, and hidden escape routes that appeal to the younger demographic of the City theme. It was well-received by fans of the line for its balanced distribution of minifigures and vehicles, solidifying its place as a representative example of the modern LEGO City aesthetic that focuses on interactive law enforcement play patterns.
