Where it came from
The LEGO Marvel Shang-Chi and The Great Protector set (30454-1) was released in 2021 as a polybag promotional set to coincide with the theatrical debut of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The set features a miniature brick-built representation of The Great Protector, the dragon guardian from the film, alongside a minifigure of the protagonist, Shang-Chi. It was designed as an entry-level build to capture the aesthetic of the film's climactic battle sequences while offering fans an accessible way to collect the main character and his companion creature.
The design of this polybag reflects the standard LEGO Marvel strategy of producing smaller, affordable sets that accompany major blockbuster releases. While larger sets in the Shang-Chi wave focused on more complex scenes, the 30454 polybag was intended to serve as a focused tribute to the central characters. Its reception was generally positive among collectors of the Marvel theme, particularly for the inclusion of a specialized minifigure and a color palette that mirrors the vibrant, mythical tone established by the film's art department and the design team at LEGO.
