Star Wars Episode IV Poster

The Star Wars Episode IV poster, known as the 'Style A' or Tom Jung one-sheet, was created in 1977 to build anticipation for the initial theatrical release of George Lucas's space opera. The illustration was commissioned by Lucasfilm from artist Tom Jung, who was tasked with distilling the film's epic scope and character dynamics into a single, compelling visual. Jung chose a dramatic composition, placing a towering Darth Vader in the background while casting Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in a heroic, kinetic foreground.

The design became an iconic piece of cinema history, characterized by its hand-drawn, illustrative quality that contrasted with the photographic posters that became common in later decades. Critics and fans praised the artwork for its ability to capture the sense of adventure and mythic struggle central to the film. Over time, this specific poster has become one of the most recognizable and highly sought-after pieces of film memorabilia, representing the dawn of the modern blockbuster era.
