Where it came from
Released in 2011, the LEGO Star Wars Magnet Set (853126-1) reflects a transitional period in LEGO's accessory offerings. These magnets were originally produced as part of a series where the minifigures were permanently glued to their magnetic bases. This design choice was intended to ensure the figures remained functional as refrigerator magnets rather than being used as loose pieces in playsets, a feature that allowed fans to display their favorite characters in a utilitarian home environment.
The set includes three minifigures: a Han Solo, a Luke Skywalker in his Hoth pilot gear, and a Rebel Trooper. The design prioritized the iconic aesthetics of the original trilogy, focusing on capturing the authentic look of the characters as they appeared in their respective scenes. While the set was well-received by casual fans and collectors looking for display-ready accessories, it also became a notable subject among enthusiasts who preferred the flexibility of unglued minifigures, eventually influencing LEGO to shift their manufacturing strategy for later magnetic products.
