Where it came from
The LEGO Star Wars Magnet Set 852947-1 was released in 2011 as part of the broader LEGO Star Wars product line. Designed to serve as functional desk or display accessories, the set included three iconic minifigures—Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and a Tie Pilot—affixed to individual base plates with embedded magnets. These sets were marketed during a period where LEGO sought to expand its Star Wars offerings beyond traditional brick-built vehicles and playsets, focusing on collectible character-driven merchandise for fans of the franchise.
The design of these minifigures mirrors the standard aesthetic established by LEGO for the Star Wars theme at the time, prioritizing screen accuracy and playability. While popular among fans for their inclusion of specific characters, these magnet sets were later discontinued as LEGO transitioned to a different style of magnet attachment. The shift was primarily driven by changes in production standards, as the original method of gluing magnets to the base plates was phased out in favor of non-permanent mounting solutions.
