Where it came from
Released in 2011, the LEGO Star Wars Magnet Set (853130-1) was part of a transition period for the company's collectible magnet offerings. During this era, LEGO shifted from selling these figures as individual loose components to integrating them into small, display-ready sets that featured a decorative backing card. This particular set was designed to capture the iconic aesthetic of the original trilogy, featuring minifigures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and a Rebel Trooper.
The set reflects the brand’s commitment to expanding the playability of the Star Wars license beyond traditional building kits. By mounting the minifigures on permanent magnet bricks, the designers intended to make these characters accessible for casual display on metallic surfaces, such as refrigerators or cabinets. Upon release, the set was well-received by collectors who appreciated the inclusion of detailed minifigures in a compact format, though it remains a noted example of the era when LEGO transitioned away from adhesive-free magnet bases.
