Where it came from
Released in 1999, the Telekom Race Cyclist and Television Motorbike set was produced as a promotional tie-in for Team Telekom, the prominent German professional cycling team active during the late 1990s. This set captures the visual aesthetic of the Tour de France coverage from that era, featuring a cyclist in the iconic pink and black team jersey alongside a camera-equipped support motorcycle intended to broadcast the race to viewers at home.
The design reflects a straightforward approach typical of late-90s promotional sets, utilizing standard system bricks to recreate the dynamic scene of a road race. While the set is relatively obscure compared to major retail themes, it serves as a distinct historical artifact of sports sponsorship in the toy industry. It was received primarily as a niche collector item for cycling enthusiasts and fans of team-branded merchandise.
