Where it came from
The Toad (Pit Crew) polybag, released under the set number 30702-1, emerged in 2024 as part of a promotional campaign tied to the LEGO Super Mario theme. Designed to capture the whimsical aesthetic of the Nintendo franchise, the figure features Toad dressed in a racing-themed pit crew outfit, reflecting the crossover appeal between building sets and the Mario Kart sub-series. Its release was intended to provide fans with a modular, accessible addition to their interactive Mario setups.
The design of this minifigure-scale character prioritizes the iconic, rounded silhouette of the Toad species while incorporating specific printed details to signify the racing uniform. LEGO designers focused on maintaining color consistency with the broader Super Mario collection, ensuring the character remained compatible with the digital play features embedded in the theme's starter courses. Upon its arrival in the market, it was widely received by collectors as a distinct, specialized variant that bridges the gap between traditional character design and the high-octane inspiration of Nintendo's racing titles.
