Where it came from
Released in 2020 as part of the initial wave of the LEGO Super Mario theme, the Toad's Treasure Hunt expansion set (71368) was designed to integrate physical building with digital interactivity. Developed through a partnership between The LEGO Group and Nintendo, the set was conceived to bridge the gap between traditional construction toys and video game mechanics, allowing players to navigate a course using an interactive Mario figure to collect digital coins.
The set focuses on the iconic Toad characters and the exploration-based gameplay of the Mario series. Its design features modular platforms, including a bridge and sliding elements, intended to replicate the environment of Toad Village. Upon its release, it was noted for its departure from standard minifigure-scale sets, favoring a larger, more tactile play experience that emphasizes kinetic movement and sound-based feedback through the electronic Mario unit.
