Where it came from
Toad's Garage (72035-1) emerged as part of the LEGO Super Mario product line, a collaborative venture between the LEGO Group and Nintendo that launched to bring iconic video game environments into a physical, interactive building format. Designed to integrate with the digital Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures, this set allows players to trigger reactions through embedded barcode technology, bridging the gap between traditional construction play and modern digital gameplay elements.
The set centers on the character Toad and the aesthetic of the Mushroom Kingdom, featuring a modular design that encourages expansion within the broader Super Mario theme. While the design prioritizes playability and functional interaction over high-level display complexity, it was developed by LEGO designers to capture the whimsical charm of the source material. It has been received primarily as an entry-level expansion set, appreciated by fans of the franchise for its thematic accuracy and the inclusion of specific interactive components.
