Where it came from
Above the Crowd was released as a rare action card in the Hyperia City set, designed to capture the high-stakes, urban-dystopian atmosphere that defined the expansion's narrative. Created during a period when the game developers were pushing for more strategic, board-control mechanics, the card was intended to reward players for maintaining a dominant position on the field, fitting into the aesthetic of the series' futuristic metropolis setting.
The art was commissioned to evoke a sense of verticality and surveillance, reflecting the themes of power and social hierarchy within the Hyperia City lore. Upon its release, it was noted by the competitive community for its unique utility, though its rarity meant that it became a sought-after piece for collectors focusing on the set's more complex tactical elements.
