This Is Business

The Hyperia City trading card game emerged during the late 1990s, a period defined by the rapid expansion of collectible card games following the success of Magic: The Gathering. Published by a mid-sized independent studio, the game aimed to capture a niche audience interested in high-concept urban cyberpunk narratives. 'This Is Business' was introduced as a rare action card in the core set, designed to represent the corporate maneuvering and back-room deals central to the game's dystopian setting.

The artwork for the card was commissioned from a team of freelance illustrators tasked with blending a sleek, minimalist aesthetic with the gritty neon tones characteristic of the genre. At the time of release, the design was noted by industry hobbyists for its stark composition, which set it apart from the more action-oriented illustrations found elsewhere in the set. While the game itself saw limited long-term commercial success, the 'This Is Business' card remains a distinct example of the era's focus on thematic world-building through card mechanics.
