Provenance

Where it came from

The Cinderella character card, numbered 242 within the Hyperia City trading card game, emerged during the late 20th-century boom of narrative-driven collectible card games. Produced as part of a thematic expansion exploring urban fantasy archetypes, the set was designed to reimagine classic folklore figures within a high-tech, neon-drenched cityscape, aiming to capture the contrast between traditional magic and futuristic industrialization.

The artistic direction for this card was intended to subvert the traditional aesthetic of the fairy tale protagonist. By utilizing a muted color palette and metallic accents, the illustrator sought to frame the character as a resilient survivor of a sprawling metropolis rather than a helpless royalty figure. While the Hyperia City set saw moderate success among niche enthusiasts, the Cinderella card is frequently cited for its distinctive, gritty interpretation of the character that broke away from more whimsical depictions popular at the time.
