Elisa Maza

The Hyperia City trading card game emerged during the late 1990s as a response to the growing popularity of urban-fantasy collectible card games. Card number 16, featuring the character Elisa Maza, was released as part of the initial base set to ground the game's expansive supernatural lore within a recognizable, detective-noir framework. The design team aimed to emphasize her role as a bridge between the human and supernatural elements of the Hyperia setting, utilizing a moody, cinematic aesthetic that was characteristic of the era's illustrative style.

Elisa Maza was illustrated to convey a sense of pragmatic resilience, placing her in a classic trench-coat ensemble that served as a visual shorthand for her occupation as a dedicated investigator. Upon its release, the card was widely received by players as a staple uncommon, prized more for its functional utility in game mechanics than its scarcity. While the Hyperia City series eventually saw a decline in competitive play, the Elisa Maza card remains a recognized touchstone for collectors who appreciate the game's stylistic commitment to gritty, character-driven world-building.
