Where it came from
Lionheart was released as part of the initial Hyperia City set, a collectible trading card game inspired by the neon-drenched aesthetics of 1980s cyberpunk. The card was designed to anchor the set's faction mechanics, representing the tactical leadership style of the titular city's defense forces. It was conceptualized by the game's lead art team to establish a visual standard for the series, utilizing high-contrast lighting and industrial motifs that would define the franchise's subsequent expansions.
Upon its release, the card gained traction among competitive players for its unique ability set, which allowed for defensive manipulation on the battlefield. Illustrators for Hyperia City drew heavy inspiration from classic graphic novel styles, aiming to make each character card feel like a frame from an ongoing narrative. Critical reception at the time of launch praised the card for its intricate background detail and cohesive integration into the game's broader lore, helping to solidify the status of Hyperia City within the wider tabletop gaming community.
