Where it came from
The Miguel Rivera card from the Hyperia City set represents a specific design movement within the early 2020s digital-to-physical trading card trend. Produced to serve as a cornerstone character in the Hyperia narrative, the card was crafted to introduce players to the setting's core protagonist. The developers sought to create a character that felt both grounded and aspirational, utilizing high-contrast lighting and a distinct street-art aesthetic that was favored by the design team to reflect the urban sci-fi themes of the expansion.
Upon its release, the card was received as a standout piece due to its enchanted rarity level, which utilized a unique holographic foiling process. Illustrators for the Hyperia City set focused on dynamic posing to emphasize Miguel's agility, a stylistic choice intended to distinguish the character from the more static figures typical of the series. Collectors often point to the balance between the card's intricate background details and its minimalist character framing as a peak example of the set's artistic direction.
