Wasabi

Wasabi was released in the Hyperia City expansion, a set centered on the futuristic, neon-drenched aesthetic of a sprawling metropolis. Developed as part of the game's second generation of cards, this character was introduced to flesh out the 'Cuisine Combatant' synergy, a design niche that rewarded players for managing resource-heavy, low-defense cards. The card represents a departure from the more traditional martial archetypes found in the base set, leaning into the eccentric, stylized character design that became a hallmark of the Hyperia City art direction.

The character design was spearheaded by the lead creative team, who aimed to blend traditional organic elements with the hard-edged, synthetic visual language of the game's setting. Wasabi was conceived as a support unit, utilizing a vibrant, high-contrast palette that distinguished it from the monochromatic background art of the urban environment. Upon its debut, the card was received as a solid, if niche, utility choice, appreciated by collectors for its whimsical portrayal of a culinary-themed warrior in a gritty sci-fi world.
