What it does
Exile the top four cards of your library in a face-down pile, then exile the top four cards of your library in a face-up pile. An opponent chooses one of those piles. Put that pile into your graveyard. Look at the cards in the other pile. You may cast a spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Put the rest into your hand.

Where it came from
Abstract Performance was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander set, a collection of supplemental decks designed to integrate with the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card is a white sorcery that fits the thematic focus of the Silverquill College, which emphasizes the interplay of words, ink, and social maneuvering. Its design focuses on creating tokens that provide flexible utility, reflecting the academic yet combative nature of the Strixhaven setting.
The card features artwork by artist Jason A. Engle, whose illustration style emphasizes the ethereal, ink-based magic distinctive to the Silverquill faction. The aesthetic leans into high-fantasy academia, utilizing monochromatic sharp contrasts to evoke the feeling of poetry and rhetoric manifested as a physical force. Within the Commander format, the card was received as a solid utility piece for strategies focused on creature growth and board presence.
