Aeon Chronicler

Aeon Chronicler was released in February 2007 as part of the Planar Chaos expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to explore an alternate timeline where the game's mechanics and color pie were shifted, reflecting a world undergoing a metaphysical crisis. The card introduced the 'suspend' mechanic, which allowed players to pay a reduced cost to cast a spell later, perfectly capturing the theme of manipulating time and temporal drift within the game's narrative.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Dan Dos Santos, who sought to capture the ethereal, monumental nature of a being responsible for recording the passage of eras. The design emphasizes a sense of scale and ancient wisdom, fitting the blue color identity's focus on knowledge and time. Upon release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its utility in control-oriented decks, where its ability to function as both a card-drawing engine and a late-game threat provided significant tactical flexibility.
