Where it came from
Aerial Assault was released in July 2019 as part of Core Set 2020 for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. As a common-rarity white spell, it was designed to provide players with a straightforward removal option, specifically targeting tapped creatures. The card represents a fundamental utility tool within the game's limited formats, serving as a tactical piece that rewards players for anticipating their opponent's attack phases.
The illustration for Aerial Assault was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who has contributed to the game for over a decade. His approach for this piece emphasizes the dynamic, sudden nature of the spell, utilizing a crisp aesthetic that fits the high-fantasy visual identity of the Core Set. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional addition to the white color identity, well-regarded by players for its efficiency in draft and sealed environments.
