Where it came from
Aether Gale was released in 2021 as part of the Commander 2021 set, specifically featured in the Prismari Performance deck. The card was designed to support the set's focus on the Prismari college from the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion, which emphasizes a thematic blend of blue and red magic, combining elemental control with artistic flair. Mechanically, it functions as a flexible bounce spell that rewards players for casting multiple spells in a single turn.
The artwork was created by illustrator Antonio José Manzanedo, who rendered the cascading, chaotic movement of the gale with the vibrant, expressive style associated with Prismari mages. Within the context of the Commander format, the card is recognized for its utility in disrupting opponents' boards while capitalizing on the spellslinger playstyle prevalent in its debut deck. It remains a functional piece of modern magic design, favored for its ability to clear the battlefield when managed correctly.
