Aether Snap

Aether Snap was released in 2004 as part of the Darksteel expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set introduced the artifact-heavy theme of Mirrodin, where the plane was crafted entirely of metal. This card was designed as a blue instant that returns all permanents to their owners' hands, serving as a tactical reset button that reflected the high-stakes, mechanical nature of the block's narrative.

The card’s artwork was illustrated by Matt Cavotta, who provided many iconic designs for the era. Cavotta’s illustration aimed to capture the essence of a sudden, violent displacement of reality, using sharp, sweeping lines and vibrant blues to convey the chaotic energy of the spell. Upon release, the card was received as a situational but powerful utility tool, recognized for its ability to clear complex boards of artifact-based threats that dominated the Darksteel meta.
