Card face

What it does

When this creature enters, you may have it fight target creature you don't control. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)

The problem isn't the indrik's enthusiasm, it's Ravnica's lack of guardrails.

Provenance

Where it came from

The Affectionate Indrik, numbered 211 in the Foundations set, represents the quintessential green-aligned creature design within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. Introduced as part of a release intended to provide a stable, evergreen foundation for both new and veteran players, this card continues a long tradition of Indrik creatures designed to offer reliable utility through a 'fight' mechanic upon entering the battlefield.

The illustration maintains the series' characteristic aesthetic, portraying the mythical Indrik as a powerful, forest-dwelling beast. By emphasizing its role as a creature that bridges the gap between combat utility and board presence, the design aims to teach players the tactical value of removal effects tied to creature spells. The card has been well-received by the community for its straightforward utility and its role in helping players understand core mechanics of the game.
