Where it came from
Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, originally appearing as a mythic rare in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Journey into Nyx, was reimagined for the Media and Collaboration Promos series as card 2024-3. This specific iteration serves as a tribute to the character's long-standing role as a cornerstone of the Green-White color identity, emphasizing his function as a planeswalker who provides both board stability and deck manipulation. The card was developed to honor Ajani Goldmane's evolution within the game's lore, capturing his transition from a troubled warrior into a wise, battle-tested mentor for younger generations of planeswalkers.
The design for this promotional release maintains the signature aesthetic of the character while utilizing updated framing conventions consistent with modern Magic release standards. The artwork aims to portray a sense of calm authority, reflecting Ajani's mentorship-focused abilities. Upon its release, the card was well-received by collectors and players alike for its thematic resonance and the functional utility it offers in Commander and other casual formats, solidifying its place as a collectible staple within the broader history of the franchise.
