Where it came from
Ajani, Mentor of Heroes was originally released as a mythic rare planeswalker in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Journey into Nyx. This specific version, identified as collector number RA5, originates from the Mythic Edition release, a premium product line designed to offer highly stylized, alternate-art versions of iconic planeswalkers to collectors.
The card features artwork by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific illustrator known for defining the visual language of the modern Magic multiverse. In this iteration, Briclot focuses on Ajani Goldmane’s role as a teacher and protector, utilizing a refined color palette and intricate framing typical of the Mythic Edition’s aesthetic, which sought to emphasize the gravitas and legendary status of these characters for long-time players.
