Where it came from
Alaundo the Seer was introduced as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Battle for Baldur's Gate, which was released in 2022 to expand the crossover between the card game and the iconic Dungeons & Dragons setting. The card depicts a legendary prophet from the Forgotten Realms lore, specifically a figure known for his cryptic manuscripts and his role in chronicling the Bhaalspawn Saga. This specific promotional version, designated by its unique numbering, serves as a high-rarity variant intended to celebrate the narrative depth of the Baldur's Gate expansion.
The artwork was created by Aurore Folny, a contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise known for her evocative and atmospheric character designs. Her illustration focuses on capturing the ethereal, scholarly essence of Alaundo, emphasizing his connection to the passage of time and his prophetic nature. The design was received by the community as a mechanically complex card, often noted for its unconventional ability to suspend spells from a player's hand and cast them for free over multiple turns, cementing its status as a staple for fans of specialized deck-building.
