Where it came from
Alchemist's Greeting was originally released in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion Eldritch Moon. Designed as a functional limited-environment utility card, it fits into the set's thematic focus on horror and mutation, specifically capturing the desperate and volatile nature of the alchemists in the gothic-horror plane of Innistrad. The artwork, provided by Greg Staples, emphasizes this frantic energy, depicting an alchemist unleashing a chaotic, magical pyrotechnic display.
The version from 'The List' is a reprint curation by Wizards of the Coast, intended to provide players with access to older, out-of-print cards within modern booster packs. This initiative began as a way to maintain the availability of niche mechanical staples that do not necessarily warrant a full reprint in a standard expansion. While the card is a standard uncommon, its inclusion in The List serves as a nod to the deep history of the Eldritch Moon environment.
