Where it came from
All-Out Assault was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm expansion, a set that revisits the time-travel narrative of the Tarkir block. The design intent behind this card was to evoke the feeling of the Mardu Horde's aggressive, raid-focused combat style, emphasizing the chaotic and overwhelming nature of a dragon-led assault on the battlefield.
The artwork was commissioned to showcase the synergy between the draconic themes of the setting and the tactical maneuvers of the clans. Upon its release, the card was viewed by players as a specialized tool for aggressive red-based decks, appreciated for its thematic adherence to the high-impact, short-duration strategies commonly associated with its color identity.
