Where it came from
All-Out Assault was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Tarkir: Dragonstorm. The set is deeply rooted in the lore of the Tarkir plane, a world defined by its shifting timelines and warring clans, specifically focusing on the timeline where dragons returned to dominance. This card captures the chaotic and aggressive martial spirit of the Mardu Horde, a clan known for its tactical mobility and relentless offensive strategies.
The card's illustration was handled by artist Johannes Voss, who sought to convey the kinetic energy and overwhelming pressure of a battlefield charge. By emphasizing the visual intensity of the assault, the design complements the game mechanics, which encourage players to commit fully to an attack. Upon its introduction, the card was recognized by players as a signature piece of red-aligned combat sorcery, well-regarded for its role in enabling high-tempo strategies.
