Where it came from
All-Out Assault was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm expansion, a set designed to evoke the high-fantasy, warlike atmosphere of the Tarkir plane. The card was crafted to represent the brutal, relentless combat style associated with the Mardu Horde, a faction within the game's lore known for speed and overwhelming aggression. Its mechanical design emphasizes the core identity of the Mardu, prioritizing immediate impact on the battlefield over long-term strategic setup.
The artwork for this piece was commissioned to capture the kinetic energy of a raid, utilizing a dynamic perspective that highlights the ferocity of the horde. Illustrators for the set were tasked with maintaining a cohesive visual language that balanced the gritty, nomadic aesthetic of the culture with the high-magic elements of the Dragonstorm storyline. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche utility tool, recognized by players for its ability to enable aggressive tactics in specific play formats.
