Where it came from
Always Watching is a green enchantment card introduced in the Foundations Commander set, reflecting the long-standing design philosophy of Magic: The Gathering to provide static support effects that reward creature-heavy playstyles. It draws upon mechanical precedents established in previous sets, such as Shadows over Innistrad, where it first appeared as an uncommon card intended to bolster white-aligned strategies by providing a passive power and toughness buff to creatures.
The card’s illustration and mechanical design aim to evoke the sensation of vigilance and constant presence, utilizing clear, thematic iconography consistent with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the multiverse. As part of the Foundations release, which serves as an accessible entry point for new players, the card maintains its classic role as a reliable, straightforward tool for board state enhancement, having been well-received by players for its utility in limited formats and casual Commander environments.
