Provenance

Where it came from

The Animal Friend card was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Fallout set in 2024. This collaborative expansion brought the post-apocalyptic aesthetic and themes of the long-running video game franchise to the tabletop card game, with this specific card serving as a direct mechanical and thematic adaptation of the popular perk system found within the Fallout game series.

The artwork was illustrated by Dave Rapoza, who was tasked with capturing the whimsical yet desolate essence of the wasteland's fauna. The design utilizes the standard Magic: The Gathering frame, integrated with the specific visual iconography and color palettes associated with the Vault-Tec branding found throughout the Fallout universe, and it was received as a faithful homage to the source material's exploration of non-hostile interactions with mutated creatures.
