Where it came from
The Ankh of Mishra was originally intended for the limited 'Edgar' print run, colloquially known as Summer Magic, which was produced in 1994 to rectify printing errors found in the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering. Due to significant production issues and distribution inconsistencies, the vast majority of this set was destroyed, making the few surviving copies exceptionally rare artifacts of the game's early developmental era.
The card features the original illustration by Quinton Hoover, whose distinct, ornate style defined much of the game's early aesthetic. The Ankh's design reflects the early game's focus on punishing rapid development, a theme that solidified its status as a staple for high-stakes play. Though it was intended to serve as a correction for previous printing defects, its scarcity transformed it into one of the most sought-after collector items in the hobby.
