Ankle Shanker

Ankle Shanker was released as a rare creature card in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering expansion Khans of Tarkir. It represents a Mardu Horde warrior, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the ruthless, dragon-worshipping clans of a war-torn world. The design specifically highlights the aggressive, high-speed combat style associated with the Mardu, who rely on rapid assault and coordinated strikes to overwhelm their opponents before defenses can be mounted.

The card was illustrated by Jason Rainville, who captured the character's fierce, predatory demeanor in a dynamic combat pose. It gained traction in the game's competitive landscape for its ability to grant both first strike and deathtouch to all attacking creatures, a combination that forces difficult blocking decisions for opponents. The promo version, marked by its distinct set symbol and collector number, was distributed through official organized play events to encourage participation and reward active members of the community.
