Where it came from
Arcbond was originally printed as part of the Fate Reforged set in early 2015, a pivotal release in the Magic: The Gathering timeline that explored the history of the plane of Tarkir. The promo version, marked as 91s, features the distinct expansion symbol of the set and was primarily distributed through participation in organized play events, such as Friday Night Magic or prerelease festivities, serving as a reward for local community engagement.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a dramatic, high-contrast style to depict the chaotic release of magical energy inherent to the card's effect. The design focuses on the visual representation of a 'bond' of damage, aiming to convey the mechanical concept of redirection and explosive feedback. It was received by players as a niche but intriguing tool for Commander and casual formats, valued for its ability to turn a defensive position into a sudden, game-ending outburst.
