Provenance

Where it came from

Argentum Armor was released in 2010 as part of the Scars of Mirrodin set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to represent the powerful, transformative nature of the Mirrodin plane, which was being corrupted by the Phyrexians at the time of the set's release. The card functions as an equipment card, reflecting the lore of the plane's inhabitants scavenging for metal and artifacts to survive in an increasingly hostile environment.

The artwork was created by illustrator Eric Deschamps, who captured the imposing and ornate aesthetic of the armor through a metallic, high-fantasy lens. Within the game's competitive ecosystem, the card is recognized for its high mana cost relative to its significant power-boosting effect, becoming a staple in formats like Commander where players prioritize powerful equipment to secure victory.
