Army of the Damned was released in 2016 as part of the Commander 2016 product line, a series of preconstructed decks for Magic: The Gathering designed to support the multiplayer Commander format. This particular card was included in the 'Entropic Uprising' deck, which focused on the red, black, green, and blue color identity. The card itself, a powerful black sorcery originally introduced in the Innistrad set, is thematic to the gothic horror setting of the plane of Innistrad, focusing on themes of necromancy and the inevitable return of the undead.
